Our goal at MindShift Clinic is to find the pathway to wellness that is right for you. Every individual is different, so we begin with comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments to determine your path. Once this is determined, we offer many different therapies that may be helpful for your healing.
Cognitive therapies involve you and your therapist or counsellor working together to uncover irrational or unhealthy thought patterns that may be manifesting as destructive behaviours or beliefs. Your therapist/counsellor will then help you learn ways to combat these irrational thoughts, thus enabling you to change the way you feel.
Biofeedback uses finely tuned devices to monitor your physiological processes (like your heart rate) and transforms that measurement into auditory and/or visual signals. These signals are presented to you in a simple, direct, and immediate way to help you re-train your body into a more relaxed state. Once you are able to achieve a more relaxed state continuously, your body, brain, and mind are all more easily healed.
All psychological conditions are associated with a change in brainwave patterns. Neurofeedback (NFT) is a painless method that helps to re-balance your brainwaves and thus reduce or even eliminate symptoms. When the brain is balanced, mind wellness is more quickly and easily achieved
INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS
CBT doesn’t work for everyone as a first step. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a different kind of psycho-therapy that views your psyche as having multiple internal “family members”. Some of your internal "family members" may be holding on to intense emotions such as shame, unworthiness, or fear. Other "family members" are likely protecting these parts and directing your behaviours to prevent the emotional parts from overwhelming your psyche. Your IFS therapist or counsellor will help you reconnect with these "family members" from a place of compassion and curiosity, eventually leading to an unburdening of these intense emotions and thus, to healing.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps couples recognize and understand the negative cycle they get into when they are in distress and then works to help couples change this interactional pattern to a healthier and happier cycle that leads to increased emotional connection.
MEDICAL EVALUATIONS & PRESCRIPTIONS
As an NP, Lisa is skilled in health management, health promotion and disease prevention. She is able to diagnose, order testing, interpret results and prescribe medication. She works collaboratively with clients and the health care team to prevent and treat acute and chronic health care concerns.
Prolonged Exposure (PE) is for the treatment of anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is a type of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that gradually exposes you to what is being avoided. With repeated exposures your distress level will gradually decline and you will be able to challenge more anxiety-producing places, objects, or situations on your avoidance hierarchy/ladder.
